At a meeting on 15 June 2018, Eugene spoke about the process of White Ribbon accreditation from the perspective of a government department (Renewal SA).
Key messages:
  • White Ribbon accreditation is more than completing a checklist. It must involve behavioural change for the organisation as a whole
  • The workplace must acknowledge mistakes that have been made and commit to correcting them
  • “Nothing for us, without us”: if a workplace is serious about ending violence against women, they must consult with women/survivors of domestic violence to determine how to achieve this
  • When engaging with staff around organisational change, this must be easy/understandable but also meaningful
