Information about a recent workshop hosted by Shelter SA in Adelaide’s outer north, and details about another workshop they are going to host in Victor Harbor to discuss housing solutions on the Fleurieu Peninsula.
The report highlights the need for increased funding for domestic violence services, the expansion of culturally appropriate domestic violence services, and the need for increased preventative responses to domestic violence – all issues that FADVAN members have previously acknowledged as important priorities.
Thank you to Shelter SA for hosting this forum and to all of the speakers, including FADVAN member Jake Battifuoco from Power Communities Ltd.
Participants at our workshop for people who live and work in Elizabeth discussed key local issues ranging from housing to cultural awareness. It is the State Government’s responsibility to take action on the following solutions arising from this workshop:
More appropriate crisis accommodation for children and families
Increase in affordable and social housing
Deliver cultural education programs
Tackle generational unemployment
Advocate to Federal Government the need for a job guarantee pilot
Investment in domestic violence prevention
Increase in funding for culturally appropriate domestic violence services
